More than 150 million Americans are still waiting to find out when they’ll receive athat could come as part of a . There’s before the — which is now just over two weeks away. However, there’s reason to believe another stimulus bill will arrive: The White House, Senate and House of Representatives all want to pass a bill to bring more financial aid to struggling individuals and businesses.
A new payment is expected to include up tofor and even . Though we can’t say for certain when a new check would be approved, there’s a lot we know that could impact when it would arrive in your mailbox .
While keeping a close eye on the state of negotiations, we’ve sketched out four possible timelines for when you could get a check, from the earliest realistic date to a speculative date after the inauguration of the next president, on Jan. 20.
The timeline could change — in fact, we expect it to — but the overall schedule for when payments are sent should remain roughly the same, which is important for understanding if your stimulus check could come in the first wave, or one of the last.

Which date could the IRS send my payment?
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said it would take about a week to process the first payments, when and if another stimulus check is signed into law. “I can get out 50 million payments really quickly. A lot of it into people’s direct accounts,” he said in August.
We’ve speculated as to some potential dates if a bill becomes law before the Nov. 3 election or after Inauguration Day on Jan. 20, 2021, based on current negotiations in Washington. Keep reading for more information.

Direct deposit is fastest: People who already have theiron file with the IRS or who provide that info when and if registration opens again should be first in line to receive a stimulus check. Social Security beneficiaries: With the first stimulus payment, many Social Security beneficiaries who had direct deposit information on file with the federal government received checks in the first week, though not always the first day.
People who get paper checks: The IRS began to mail checks about a week later to those without direct deposit data on file.
