With 5+ years of mattress testing experience, we use our different sleeping position and body type perspectives to offer well-rounded, honest reviews.

If you suffer from chronic hip pain, having a supportive mattress that lulls you into a restful sleep can be great for pressure relief. If you’ve been postponing getting a new mattress, it’s high time you gift yourself something useful to keep those hip joints in check to improve your sleep quality. However, the number of options out there can feel daunting. That’s why we’re here to help.

Whether you prefer a soft or firm mattress, we’ve tested hundreds to find the best one for hip pain, offering excellent pressure relief, motion isolation and proper spinal alignment. Sleeping position, feel and versatility were all carefully considered. These mattresses should also help if you have shoulder or other joint pain. With that said, these are the top six beds that should help relieve pressure on your hip joints to help you get quality sleep.

If you don’t have the budget for a brand-new mattress but need an extra layer of support to relieve hip pain on your current bed, consider adding one of our favorite mattress toppers.

What’s the best mattress for hip pain relief?

Our team spent hours testing and sleeping on dozens of mattresses to choose the top picks for this list. When selecting a bed to help accommodate a chronic health condition, we always recommend talking to your doctor or a health professional before making a significant change, such as switching up your mattress. We’re not doctors, just expert mattress reviewers.

For this specific list, we mainly considered how pressure-relieving they are. We also looked at any additional features the mattress has, such as targeted or zoned support.

Plenty of online beds strike a nice balance of cushion and support, but the one our team always comes back to is the Casper Dream Max Hybrid. As someone with shoulder pain, I’ve found this bed to be comfortable and pressure-relieving enough to help alleviate the pain while still being supportive with its zone support technology.

Best mattresses for hip pain in 2025

Why we chose the Casper Dream Max Hybrid mattress: The Casper Dream Max is part of Casper’s recently launched line of new mattresses. Since its firmness profile is around medium-soft, it commonly makes our list of the best beds for side sleepers and many of our pain-related best lists.

The Dream Max has a system of seven support zones designed to ease pressure points while promoting proper spinal alignment. This mattress has a firmer center foam layer and a layer of memory foam with precisely cut grooves that cradle your body’s natural curves, allowing your shoulders and hips to sink in comfortably, helping by offering some hip pain relief. It has a soft, neutral feel that many sleepers will enjoy.

If you’re interested in this bed but it’s out of your budget, check out the Dream Hybrid. With a medium firmness profile, it’s slightly firmer than the Dream Max but is offered at a lower price tag. Keep in mind that the brand frequently offers discounts that bring the prices down quite a bit, especially around holidays.

Why we picked the WinkBed mattress: If you’re looking for a more traditional mattress style to accommodate hip and shoulder pain, this is the bed for you. If buying a bed made in the US is also important to you, then it’s worth mentioning that this quality mattress is handcrafted out of Wisconsin. It has coils and supportive foam to provide heavier people with lots of pushback.

It’s available in four different firmness options, but for this specific list, we recommend the “softer” model, as it will provide the most pressure relief for your hips at night. Being a pillow-top bed, it has a pillow-top feel and feels like a bed you’d sleep on in a fancy hotel. It may even remind you of a bed you grew up sleeping on.

The WinkBed ranges from twin to Cal king for $1,149 to $2,049 before discounts. WinkBeds typically offers heavy cash discounts on its beds all year.

Why we picked the Layla mattress: Sometimes, you need a bed that is versatile to accommodate an ever-changing health condition. The Layla Hybrid is a flippable memory foam mattress with a different firmness level on either side. If your hip pain flares up, you can flip the mattress to the soft side and back to the firm side whenever you see fit.

As I mentioned, the “soft” side will be the most pressure-relieving side for hip pain as it’s around a proper medium-soft. If you flip it over to the firm side, it’s between medium and medium-firm. Either way, you have two firmnesses in one bed to experiment with, and both feature the same type of responsive memory foam feel. This feel conforms to your body, offering a nice amount of give without any “stuck” feeling you’d find in more slow-responding traditional memory foam beds.

The Layla mattress comes in twin to California king and ranges from $749 to $1,249. That’s great value for a flippable online mattress, especially before any discounts.
