RemoveIt Pro 2017 Enterprise is a security program that on it’s home page states it “Locates & Removes many new Spyware, Malware, Virus, Worms, Trojans and Adware that other popular AV program missed!”. When I tested it, though, I found that it not only detected numerous legitimate files as infections, but it also listed infected files that do not actually exist on my test computer. In order to remove anything it finds, it then prompts you to purchase the program.
For example, when I performed a scan using RemoteIt Pro, it detected the C:\Windows\System32\user.exe file as the Sys32.%%user%% infection. When I checked to see what this file was, I discovered that this file does not even exist on the computer being scanned. What I also found strange was that RemoveIt Pro detected numerous legitimate programs as infections and even detected its own executable as a Malware-Gen infection as seen below.
While I am not sure if these are simply false positives or poor coding in the program, I find it very alarming when a program states that a file on a computer is infected and that file does not actually exist.
How was RemoveIt Pro 2017 Enterprise installed on my Computer?
While I have only seen it manually downloaded from their web site, Malwarebytes reported that it also included in various program bundles. Therefore, it is important that you pay close attention to license agreements and installation screens when installing anything off of the Internet. If an installation screen offers you Custom or Advanced installation options, it is a good idea to select these as they will typically disclose what other 3rd party software will also be installed. Furthermore, If the license agreement or installation screens state that they are going to install a toolbar or other unwanted adware, it is advised that you immediately cancel the install and not use the free software.
While paying for RemoveIt Pro 2017 Enterprise may enable it to remove the various files it detects, since it detects many legitimate programs as infections and also states that non-existent files are threats, I feel that you should avoid this program.
